Dr Amanda Holt secures two significant new research grants

Roehampton criminologist to join forces with Brighton, Plymouth and Hull universities for two projects in 2021.

Reader in criminology Dr Amanda Holt is embarking on two major new research projects, both supported by substantial grants. 

Her first comes with £134,000 funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), to be shared with colleagues from the universities of Brighton and Plymouth.  It's a UK-wide exploration into the ways in which the Covid-19 global pandemic has impacted gender-based violence. The interdiscipliary team, comprising sociologists, geographers and criminologists, will focus on how the lockdown has mobilised and immobilised different online and offline forms of gender-based violence, including sexual harassment, stalking, and domestic abuse. 

For the second project Dr Holt is partnering the University of Hull and research consultancy Ecorys, with £95,000 funding provided by the Violence Reduction Unit at the London Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime. The team will carry out a comprehensive assessment of child and adolescent violence towards parents across London looking at prevalence, existing provision and barriers to help-seeking. The project findings will feed into the pan-London public health strategy for violence reduction.
