Professor Aisha K Gill

Professor Aisha K Gill is on a shortlist of five to win the 2020 Star Women award organised by Hello! magazine. The award recognises women who have dedicated themselves to acts of exceptional kindness and positivity during these difficult times, under the hashtag #hellotokindness. Prof Gill has raised over £58,000 to fund emergency shelter accommodation for migrant women and children escaping domestic violence but whose immigration status means they have no access to public funds. She has also been very hands on throughout the period of coronavirus restrictions, delivering food, clothing and medicines to shelters and advising the organisations housing the women.

'I've been delighted with the response so far to my fundraising, but the situation for so many migrant women and children remains desperate and I need to urgently raise a further £5,000 by 20 November' Prof Gill commented. 'If anyone can contribute even just a few pounds it would help me reach the target'.  Her Just Giving page can be reached here and to cast a vote for Prof Gill in the final of 2020 Star Women please visit this page.
