Professor Aisha K. Gill CBE, Professor of Criminology at the University of Roehampton, has appeared on Sky News alongside Jess Phillips MP, Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding, to discuss the severity and impact of gender-based violence.

Later that day, in the House of Commons, Jess Phillips MP named all of the women killed by men in 2020.

As heightened discussion and anxiety regarding violence against women and girls continues, Professor Gill spoke about the everyday reality that women face:

“We need to recognise that these kind of crimes are gendered crimes, and its having a devastating impact. I say this as someone who has also been subjected to public harassment, and having to modify my behaviour, constantly looking over my shoulder when I’m out in the evenings or on public transport. This is our daily reality, we need to think about the key challenges that are being faced around the ongoing devastation of gender-based violence.”

Having recently been shortlisted for a Star Women award in Hello! Magazine, Professor Gill is continuing her immense fundraising efforts for migrant women and children suffering domestic abuse with no recourse to public funds during the coronavirus pandemic. Professor Gill is also featuring in a Channel 5 documentary about convicted sex offender John Worboys entitled ‘Predator: Catching The Black Cab Rapist’, which will be broadcast on Wednesday 24 March 2021 at 9pm.
