The School of Humanities wishes to offer its congratulations to Professor Fiona Ellis, who has been appointed to a sub-panel of assessors for theology and religious studies in the forthcoming Research Excellence Framework (REF). The appointment is a testimony to Prof Ellis's outstanding reputation within her field and raises the profile of Roehampton as a centre of theology teaching and learning. Her research interests include philosophy of religion, the relation between philosophy and theology, philosophical idealism, naturalism, the philosophy of love and desire, and the meaning of life.

Prof Ellis commented: 'I'm thrilled to have been appointed to the REF sub-panel for Theology and Religious Studies. It's an opportunity to get a real overview of what's going on in these subject areas, and I'm looking forward to doing all the reading and thinking. I found out about my appointment a few weeks ago on a rainy and dismal afternoon, and it certainly cheered me up after months of Covid-related desolation! I'll certainly gain a lot from the process, and it's good for the University that we are represented at this level'.

Head of School Professor Laura Peters commented: 'This is an incredible achievement and clearly demonstrates the high regard in which Fiona is held in the field. I am sure colleagues will want to join me in congratulating her.'
