Roehampton students and staff to support local children’s literature festival for third year

This May, Barnes Children's Literature Festival returns to south west London with the University as its lead partner.
The largest dedicated children's literature festival in London, Barnes Children's Literature Festival will benefit from the expertise of academics from across the University, some of whom will holding sessions over the festival weekend.
Providing paid and voluntary work opportunities for students from all departments, including a dedicated press team, photographers, festival stewards and an intern, the festival will offer students the opportunity to put their skills to use and gain new experiences.
This year's festival will feature Judith Kerr, author of The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler, and How to Train your Dragon writer and illustrator Cressida Cowell. Taking place between 11-13 May, the festival promises to deliver some once in a life time opportunities, and the chance for children to unleash their own creativity in workshops, including a story telling workshop with Roehampton's Dr Ian Kinane. There will be a special family concert with Dr Adam Ockelford from the School of Education and musical savant Derek Paravicini. The festival also includes a schools outreach programme.
Amanda Brettargh, festival director said ‘Our partnership with the University of Roehampton provides many opportunities to collaborate with their talented academics and students across many disciplines to excite more children, young people and families than ever before with the power of reading, writing and ideas’.
