University celebrates a decade of Ministerial Theology

The Department of Humanities celebrates ten successful years of providing Ministerial Theology.

At a special event on Saturday 11 November, the University celebrated ten years since the first cohort of students enrolled on the Foundation Degree in Ministerial Theology. Over the decade, the University has awarded over 350 degrees to graduates, and has added a Bachelor's degree, Graduate Diploma, Master's degree and a professional doctorate to its provision.

The event included talks, a debate, and a celebration service, and was attended by 130 people, including alumni, as well as notable figures from both church and academia as keynote speakers, Bishop Joe Aldred, Dr Hugh Osgood and Dr Elaine Storkey. Both Bishop Aldred and Dr Storkey stressed the need for Roehampton's Ministerial Theology graduates to offer a theological voice in public life, highlighting shifting cultural trends and identifying some of the challenges for theology in today's world.

Roehampton remains the only University in London that offers ecumenical Ministerial formation programmes, and consistently performs well in the National Student Survey, scoring 100% in overall student satisfaction this year for the second time in three years.

Dr Andrew Rogers, convenor for Ministerial Theology, said‘We are very proud to have awarded degrees to so many graduates from a diverse range of Christian backgrounds over the last ten years. The success of these degrees is a testament to the quality of teaching, our heritage, and our inclusive approach to students from non-traditional academic backgrounds. We are continuing to expand our teaching staff, and develop new programmes such as Theology for Everyone’.
