Higher Technical Education
Roehampton provides Higher Technical Qualifications as a new, alternative route for students to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for roles that are currently in demand from employers.
Approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education, these qualifications are an alternative to apprenticeships or degrees, while still maintaining the same high standard of university education.
They are part of Roehampton's commitment to make education accessible and provide employability-focussed programmes.
Currently Roehampton offers two types of Higher Technical qualifications: Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas.
Why study a Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma?
Both of these are practical-based qualifications, which is perfect if you want to head straight into work. You’ll learn the skills needed to move into your chosen career and may even get to work with local employers.
Studying a Higher National Certificate or Higher National Diploma is also a good option if you don’t feel ready for a bachelor’s degree once you finish school.
They let you study at a manageable pace and when you’re ready to switch to a bachelor’s degree, you’ll already have the foundations of the degree in place.
What's the difference between a Higher National Certificate and Higher National Diploma?
- A Higher National Certificate qualification sits at level 4 of the Qualifications and Credit Framework, with a Higher National Diploma sitting at level 5.
- While a Higher National Certificate is equivalent to studying for a year at university, a Higher National Diploma equates to two years.
- A Higher National Certificate will let you enter a bachelor’s degree at year 2, while a Higher National Diploma will let you enter at year 3.
