Modules

These modules are those we currently offer for 1 year (full time) and may be subject to change.

This course offers all students the option of a one-year paid work placement, to boost your employability even further. If you choose this route, you will take the placement following year two of your course, and then return to complete your degree.

Why take a placement?

A placement year is the perfect opportunity to gain valuable work experience, to build on the career skills we will teach you on this degree. The connections you make on the placement will improve your career prospects further, and equip you with the skills you need to secure graduate-level employment.

How we support you

The University's Placement and Work Experience Team are experts at helping you to secure a placement. They will work closely with you from the start, helping you research potential employers, discover placement opportunities, create and pitch your CV, and will coach you to perform well in interviews. We aren't able to guarantee a placement, but our sector-leading advisors will give you the best possible chance of securing one.

Find out more about how we'll support you

We understand that your plans might change once you start your programme. If you decide not to do a placement, you will have the option of completing the three year version of your programme.

Whatever your choice, you will have access to many opportunities for work experience through our Placement and Work Experience Team, and access to face-to-face and 24/7 online careers support.

Study Abroad

This course has the option of studying abroad as part of your degree in your second semester of second year.

With Roehampton Abroad scholarships of up to £1,000 and Turing Scheme funding available, you could spend a semester at one of our partner universities across the globe, with destinations including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and Europe.

Skills

On our BA Liberal Arts, our priority is ensuring that you graduate with a professional skillset. This incorporates;

  • A combination of practical and creative skills, plus excellent communication skills and an understanding of wide range of critical issues facing the world.
  • An impressive toolkit of worldliness, knowledge and skills that will be attractive to employers, and offer excellent career prospects.

These three strands will ensure that you are ready for the practical realities of digital design work. This could mean working to a brief, pitching design concepts, collaborating with other industries and engaging in user research, fieldwork and ethnography.

Create your own degree programme from a wide range of options in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences that cover six major themes:

  • Social Justice and Identity
  • Politics and International Relations
  • Literature and Language
  • Religions and Philosophy
  • History and Heritage
  • Media and Creative Industries.

This structure balances breadth and depth, and offers flexibility while ensuring you develop research expertise in your own area of interest.

How you'll learn

In years 2 and 3, students opt for a curriculum that is unique to them by choosing optional modules from two or more of the six pathways above. We’ll work with you to help you build a course that reflects what matters to you.

Career options

Graduates of BA Liberal Arts will be highly employable in any sector from government and public sectors to education, media, volunteering/NGO sector, and the corporate sector.

Employability skills are embedded in the programme. It offers the opportunity for a year long work placement, the opportunity to spend a term abroad, and the opportunity to undertake a final year project module which builds from the previous year's placement. Our 'authentic assessment' approach allows students to graduate with a portfolio which may include websites, blogs, video-essays, policy reports, reviews – all of which will display critical thinking, communication skills and analytical argument. The portfolio will be a valuable item in a graduate's job hunting toolkit.

Our dedicated careers team is available to support you from the start of your studies until after you graduate. They will help you build your CV, prepare for interviews and meet and learn from successful Roehampton graduates working at the top of their careers. You’ll also have opportunities to work with our partners across London and beyond, and to attend a Roehampton jobs fair where you can find out about graduate opportunities and meet employers.
