Support

The University has excellent study, support and social facilities. As a research student, your Academic Department will appoint at least two suitably qualified and experienced members of staff to supervise your research and advise you on appropriate reading, research methods courses and other relevant information.

Research Degree Handbook

The Research Degree Handbook provides information and guidance on all aspects of your graduate experience at Roehampton. If your query isn't answered by the Handbook then please contact us at graduateschool@roehampton.ac.uk.

Supervisory Team

Your supervisory team will consist of a Director of Studies (who is responsible for the overall management of your programme) and at least one Co-Supervisor (who will bring additional expertise to the team). In some cases, particularly if you are conducting your research outside of the UK, an external Co-Supervisor may also be appointed to help guide you in your research. Further information on the role of the supervisory team can be found in the Research Degree Handbook.

Research Student Development Programme

The University offers a comprehensive Research Student Development Programme, including research methods training based in each of the major disciplinary areas, arts & humanities, social sciences and sciences. Research Centres, to which research students belong, organise research seminar series. The Graduate School provides generic training for the doctoral study and broader research and career issues.

There is also support available for English and foreign language training, including skills, IT and information retrieval etc.

Because every research degree is unique, each student will have their own particular training requirements based on their individual circumstances and prior experience. Students are advised to work closely with their supervisors to identify training needs and monitor these throughout their programmes. The current programme is available on the Graduate School Moodle site.
